OSB - EMA® Oral Systemic Balance - Elastic Mandibular Advancement
The OSB - EMA® Therapeutic System provides neuromuscular and positional support of the throat and is a special project with Farrand Robson, DDS of Tacoma, Washington. The shapes of the teeth and tissues in the mouth that contact the tongue cause muscle contraction in the tongue, thereby effecting the throat. By combining this new technology with the EMA® system, the OSB-EMA® is more effective and allows rapid treatment responses for a broader range of symptoms. The OSB-EMA® is an orthotic manufactured from dental models that engage upper and lower dental arches. What distinguishes this orthotic is the shapes and contours that actually enhance oral functions and maintain a more open throat. Freedom of movement of the jaw, joined with bite support for the joints, works in combination with these shapes and contours. Special attention is given to appropriate support for the tongue. Each case is evaluated and individual needs are incorporated in the appliance design. This makes the orthotic very comfortable, relaxing and effective. The OSB-EMA® is a highly specialized appliance with limited availability. Training is currently being offered for this new technology.
